Engaging e-mails deliver results. While it is true that anyone can write an e-mail, fewer can compose one that engages the recipient. Think about when you send an e-mail to a colleague. Chances are it is direct and to the point. There isn’t an essence of you in the e-mail. Rather, you have presented them with cut and dry facts. While this approach isn’t wrong, it isn’t the best option you have.

What I’d like to discuss with you is an automated e-mail system designed to change that. In this case, you have a template that guides you through the creation process. By following the template, you will create engaging e-mails in under five minutes. You’ll also discover that these e-mails are more effective than anything you’ve written in the past.

Before we begin, let’s talk about the message itself. As recruiters, we look solely at solving a problem. We need to fill a position with the best candidate possible. Our mind is on a mission to solve a problem, not to sell our services or a candidate. So when we try to compose a simple promotional e-mail, we find three things to be true.

  • Writing is harder than it looks.
  • Clients or candidates are not engaged and don’t respond.
  • The message has nothing to actually say.

But with a simple e-mail template, you can craft powerful e-mails with an impact. This template delivers powerful results without any guesswork. Instead, you fill in the simple sections and you are certain to discover:

  • Your writing is more prolific.
  • You receive responses to your e-mail.
  • There is an establishment of trust and a connection with candidate and clients.
  • You’re viewed as the go to person for your niche.
  • People read what you have written because they become engaged.

So how do we get to the point where you start making an impact? We begin by understanding that our relationships in business are give and take. Most e-mails are written to encourage people to give to you. Give me your business. Buy my book. This takes away from the message. But what if an e-mail gives to the reader? When there is something being given, but not solved in the e-mail, people will seek your advice for more.

Another effective option is to tell a story. Stories allow us to connect with our audience. Based on this connection, companies sell products. The next time you read an e-mail or even watch a commercial, look at the story behind the sale and understand that is how they are winning you over.

Within your niche, you’ll also find a need to create quality, engaging content. Through the content twister, you’ll find the inspiration needed to create the best content possible. There are seven main types to focus on. They include:

  • Rants
  • Questions and Answers
  • Case Studies
  • How To
  • Show and Tell
  • Story – Lesson – Offer

As you close each e-mail, leave people wanting more. If you’ve watched a soap opera, or read a book, you know they finish on a cliffhanger. This is also called an open hook. This hook creates a need to read in the future. When they are done reading the first e-mail, they will likely read the next to find out how it continues. This draws in and engages the reader.

Now, it is important that we touch on how you engage readers. There are two approaches. When you don’t know someone, you have a short amount of time to make an impression. In this case, you give them an informal overview of information. This is short and to the point. Once you have a personal connection with the reader, you may create longer, warmer content. This personable and informational content is longer and more engaging as the reader is somewhat vested in your content.

Finally, there is the fine-tuning of the promotional tone of the e-mail. Every piece of information in it should flow from start to finish without backtracking. It should remain engaging and each line must have a purpose. Filler lines must be removed. Lines of importance should be hammered to get a point across. By the time you are finished, you should have an expertly crafted e-mail from start to finish.

If you are struggling with drafting e-mails, consider the e-mail form we are offering on the website. Use it to create engaging and powerful e-mails that make an impact.
